Vår Energi picks Deepsea Bergen for long-term drilling program

Odfjell Drilling received a letter of award from Vår Energi for the Deepsea Bergen semisubmersible, covering three years of drilling work starting in early 2028.

The award follows completion of the rig’s current contract and extends the Deepsea Bergen’s firm backlog to Q1 2031. The Deepsea Bergen is a CS 60 E harsh-environment semisubmersible built in 2019 and rated for water depths to 3,000 m. Odfjell Drilling has managed the rig since 2022 and fully acquired the unit in late 2025.

The award comes as Vår Energi continues an active North Sea drilling program, including a seven-well exploration campaign across its Balder, Gjøa and Åsgard hubs planned for the second half of 2026.
