Trion campaign passes 10 wells and installs first subsea tree

Ten of the 24 subsea wells planned for the Trion project in the ultra-deepwater US Gulf had been drilled by the end of September, and the first subsea tree was installed, Woodside Energy reported in its Q3 results.

Transocean’s Deepwater Thalassa drillship began the campaign in March, and the wells will tie back to the Tláloc FPU. Fabrication of the FPU reached 96% completion, and integration and pre-commissioning are underway. Subsea equipment and the disconnectable turret mooring buoy were delivered to Mexico, and offshore installation has started.

Construction of the Chalchi floating storage and offloading vessel also progressed, including integration of the turret into the hull. The project was 71% complete at quarter end and is targeting first oil in 2028. Woodside operates Trion with a 60% interest, and PEMEX holds the remaining 40%.
