TotalEnergies expands Angola position with Block 17 discovery, new blocks
TotalEnergies confirmed a new oil discovery at Acacia-5 in Angola’s Block 17 and said it plans to bring the well onstream within three months of the June 2026 discovery, using available capacity on the Pazflor FPSO. Acacia-5 is expected to add 6,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) to Block 17 production.
The discovery marks TotalEnergies’ second Angola exploration success of 2026, following an earlier find in Block 0, where TotalEnergies holds a 10% interest alongside operator Chevron. TotalEnergies operates Block 17 with a 38% interest, alongside Equinor (22.16%), ExxonMobil (19%), Azule Energy (15.84%) and Sonangol E&P (5%).
TotalEnergies also signed agreements with Angola’s National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANPG) to enter as operator with a 40% interest in exploration Blocks 17/25 and 32/21 in the Lower Congo Basin, near its existing Block 17 and Block 32 operations. TotalEnergies holds the new blocks alongside ExxonMobil (40%) and Sonangol E&P (20%).
