Oil India Limited (OIL) discovered natural gas in the previously unappraised Matsyapuri formation of the Krishna-Godavari Basin offshore India. The Godavari-1 well was drilled as an appraisal well in Discovered Small Field block KG-DSF/GSKW/2018 in shallow water, where OIL is sole operator. Hydrocarbons were reported at 2,024-2,027 m.

Production testing of the zone began on 16 October 2026. Gas flowed to the surface at about 100,000 standard cu m/d, with a maximum of 200,000 standard cu m/d on continuous testing. The well also produced condensate at about 170 barrels of oil per day (bopd) at 55.8 API, along with water, at a wellhead pressure of 1,815 psi.
