Oceaneering pilots ROV on drilling rig offshore Brazil from onshore base

Oceaneering completed the first piloting of a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) on a drilling rig offshore Brazil from its onshore remote operations center (OROC) in Macaé, in support of Petrobras operations.

The company’s Subsea Robotics segment and Brazilian subsidiary Marine Production Systems do Brasil LTDA (MPS) conducted the operation, with an Oceaneering pilot remotely controlling the ROV from the Macaé base while it performed live field activities onboard the rig.

The milestone builds on Oceaneering’s remote operations work in Brazil. Following the opening of the Macaé OROC, the company in February 2024 performed its first onshore-piloted remote ROV operations for Petrobras from a vessel offshore Brazil. Oceaneering executed its first onshore-piloted remote ROV operations in 2004 and established its first OROC in Stavanger, Norway, in 2015. The company currently operates OROCs in Macaé, Aberdeen and Morgan City, Louisiana.
