Gas discovery made in UK West of Shetland

DONG Energy has made a natural gas discovery in the Glenlivet license West of Shetland, located close to the Laggan and Tormore gas discoveries.

The well encountered the prognosed gas pay in Paleocene sandstone. An extensive coring, logging and sampling program has been carried out, confirming excellent reservoir and saturation parameters (61 m net pay gas section).

The Glenlivet well is the first to be operated by DONG Energy in the UK’s West of Shetland sector. The exploration well is being drilled with the deepwater semisubmersible Transocean Rather. The exploration well was spudded on 22 August 2009, and, despite very harsh weather, the drilling operation went according to plan. Total depth was reached on 10 September.

Sidetrack operations are being considered to appraise the size of the gas discovery.

DONG Energy’s partners in this license are Faroe Petroleum and First Oil Expro.
