Secure-NOK: Cyber attack detection paramount to protecting asset integrity

As drilling rigs become more computerized and equipment becomes connected to the internet at large, cybersecurity is becoming increasingly an important aspect of rigs’ asset integrity. In particular, the ability of drilling contractors to detect sophisticated cyber threats on drilling control systems, tools and equipment, which can now connect to the internet, is critical in protecting against harmful malware or viruses. At the 2015 IADC Asset Integrity and Reliability Conference in Houston, Secure-NOK’s Siv Hilde Houmb explained to DC how critical it has become to create cybersecurity systems tailored to the complexities and requirements of drilling rigs. For more information about how the drilling industry is implementing cybersecurity on rigs, read DC’s latest cover story, “Drilling Cybersecurity.”
