Silver City rig heads to Seram for Lion’s Bula Karang-1 well

Lion Energy began mobilizing Silver City Drilling’s Rig 20 to Seram Island, Indonesia, for the Bula Karang-1 exploration well in the East Seram production sharing contract (PSC). Three landing craft tank barges are carrying the rig, equipment and supplies from Patimban Port, West Java, to Bula. The first barge, with the rig, left on 13 October and is due at Bula on 27 October, and two more carrying drilling equipment and supplies are due on 1 November and 8 November.
The well is scheduled to spud on 10 November 2026, with drilling and evaluation expected to wrap up by early December. Rig-up is expected to take 10-14 days after the rig arrives. The well pad, river crossings and access routes are complete. The well will evaluate the primary carbonate reservoir, secondary sandstone objectives and potential hydrocarbons in the historic Bula Field interval along the well path, using logging-while-drilling tools and cuttings analysis. The primary objective holds an unrisked P50 prospective resource of 12 million barrels of oil, with an estimated 38% geological chance of success.
If drilling shows positive indications, initial testing will use the drilling rig. Lion plans to use a smaller workover rig already in the Bula area for completion and an extended well test in early 2027, with March 2027 as the current planning case.
