Morpho well off Brazil’s Amapá coast adds a second oil find

Deeper drilling at the Morpho exploration well (1-BRSA-1405-APS) in block FZA-M-59 turned up a second oil discovery for Petrobras in the Foz do Amazonas basin off Amapá state. Petrobras operates the block with a 100% interest, and the well sits in 2,886 m of water.

Petrobras kept drilling after announcing the first discovery in August to evaluate deeper exploration intervals. Electrical logs, rock indications and fluid samples identified the new interval. Analyses of the August find have confirmed good oil quality, while work on the new interval is continuing.

Petrobras will complete drilling of the well and continue evaluating the formations identified. The company said the result will inform its assessment of the basin’s petroleum systems and resource potential.
