Building on the success of the past two years, IADC’s Young Professionals (YP) Committee brought back its one-day Summit, built specifically for the next generation of talent in the drilling industry. Held on 24 September at Transocean in Houston, the event gave YPs a dedicated space to network, exchange ideas, hear from industry SMEs and discuss key industry trends with their peers.
The program included Eric Kolstad (Catarus) on building an innovation culture, Blake Denton (Noble Drilling) on contract negotiation, Ed Hirs (University of Houston) on the geopolitical landscape and Samir Ali (Seadrill), who offered a contractor’s perspective. Panel highlights included an AI Panel with Linda Addison (Cognite), Micah Garrison (Patterson-UTI) and Rob Blue (Layer III), and a Career Pivots Panel featuring Isabela Louback (Precision Drilling), Jacob Bruster (Cactus Drilling) and Landon Glenn (H&P).
The day also featured a Technology Showcase and a session on the industry’s impact beyond the rig, which included a volunteer opportunity supporting redM’s anti-trafficking work. Plenty of built-in networking rounded out the program, capped off with a Happy Hour sponsored by the YP Committee.
