ONGC’s MN-DW18-1-H-D well flows gas off India’s east coast

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) made a gas discovery on 18 September 2026 at the MN-DW18-1-H-D deepwater well in the Mahanadi Offshore Basin off the coast of Odisha. The well reached a target depth of 1,623 m and recorded the gas strike in the 1,441-1,452 m interval. It has been flowing gas for the past three days with encouraging flow and reservoir pressure.

The well sits about 43 km off Konark and is the first ONGC drilled in the Mahanadi Basin under the Samudra Manthan initiative. It spudded on 25 July 2026.
