Murphy Oil spuds Lac Da Trang exploration well offshore Vietnam

Murphy Oil spudded the Lac Da Trang North-1X exploration well in Block 15-1/05 offshore southern Vietnam, targeting 40 MMbbl to 80 MMbbl of recoverable resources in the Cuu Long Basin. Murphy operates the block with a 40% interest, alongside partners PetroVietnam Exploration Production (35%) and SK Earthon (25%).

A commercial discovery at Lac Da Trang could be developed as a tieback to Murphy’s nearby Lac Da Vang project, potentially lowering development costs and shortening the path to first production compared with a standalone development. Lac Da Vang, also located in Block 15-1/05, remains on track for first oil in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The Lac Da Trang spud follows a series of exploration and appraisal efforts by Murphy in the block, including the Lac Da Hong discovery announced in 2025. The company continues to advance a broader portfolio of exploration opportunities in Vietnam alongside its offshore programs in the US Gulf and Côte d’Ivoire.
