Pacassa SW well encounters oil pay offshore Angola for Afentra
Afentra confirmed a successful oil discovery at the Pacassa SW well offshore Angola, with the well reaching a total measured depth of 5,381 m and encountering a 217-m gross hydrocarbon-bearing interval in the fractured Albian Pinda carbonate formation. Evaluation of wireline logging data identified an estimated 136 m of net oil pay, and initial pressure readings indicated communication with the main Pacassa field.
The Borr Grid jackup drilled the well under a rig-sharing agreement between the Block 3/05 joint venture and Sonangol, following the program’s spud in March. Afentra will complete Pacassa SW as an oil producer and tie it into existing Pacassa production infrastructure, with first oil expected in Q3 2026. Once completion work wraps up, the rig will move to drill the Impala-2 development well, with results expected by the end of Q4 2026.
Block 3/05, located in Angola’s Lower Congo Basin, is operated by Sonangol in partnership with Afentra, Maurel & Prom, Etu Energias and NIS Naftgas. The joint venture is pursuing a wider infill drilling and workover program across the block through 2026 and 2027, aimed at unlocking bypassed and underdeveloped reserves in the mature field area.
