IADC recognizes Kern, Moralez with exemplary service awards

Helmerich & Payne’s Sarah Kern and BP’s Nathan Moralez each received IADC exemplary service awards on 3 November at the 2022 IADC Annual General Meeting in New Orleans, La. Ms Kern, who currently serves as Senior Industry Affairs Analyst at H&P, recently served as Co-Chair of the IADC Young Professionals Committee, which is dedicated to developing the industry’s next generation of leaders. She also serves on the Program Committees for the IADC Advanced Rig Technology (ART) Conference and the IADC/SPE International Drilling Conference. Building and maintaining the workforce of the future is one of the key challenges for the drilling industry moving forward. In order to retain young workers in the oilfield, companies must better understand the things that motivate them and build that into their approach to training. Even as governments push for greater renewable energy production on the road to a low-emissions future, oil and gas remains the primary force in the global energy mix, said Jim Wicklund of Wickland & Associates. Among other things, European energy security concerns in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine have countries looking to boost imports from other parts of the world. Mr Wicklund said the US, in particular, is well suited to make up the post-Ukraine global supply shortfall through LNG exports, but a few hurdles remain to help producers realize that potential. Nabors retrofits robotics module onto existing land rig to achieve full automation

Nabors has launched its Canrig Red Zone Robotics (RZR) Rig Floor Module, a modular rig upgrade that automates routine drilling activities. Nabors retrofitted an existing rig – X29 – with the RZR module and has drilled multiple horizontal wells for ExxonMobil in the Permian Basin. Westwood: Equinor drives
|
New research from Westwood Global Energy Group reveals that the availability of emission-lowering upgrades for offshore rigs has been on the rise but adoption of these new technologies is slow outside of Norway and the US Gulf of Mexico due to limited regulatory and financial incentives. The report revealed that the biggest users of rigs fitted with emission reduction technology are those with ambitious emission goals of their own, driven largely by Equinor’s Norway and Brazil operations. Between 2020 and 2032, Equinor’s contracted days of low-emission upgraded rigs is 33,618 (92 rig years) compared with the combined number of days for all other operators, which is 43,600 rig days (119 rig years)... |

The National Agency for Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG), ExxonMobil Angola and the Angola Block 15 partners announced a new discovery at the Bavuca South-1 exploration well in Block 15. SLB, Halliburton, ADNOC Drilling receive fluids services contracts from ADNOC
|
ADNOC awarded three framework agreements, valued at a combined $4 billion, for integrated drilling fluids services (IDFS) to support the ongoing expansion of its lower-cost and less carbon-intensive production capacity as it responds to growing global demand for energy. The awards, which ADNOC says are the largest of their kind in the industry, were awarded to ADNOC Drilling, SLB and Halliburton. At the 2022 Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) on 2 November, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Siemens Energy announced plans to pilot blockchain technology to certify the carbon intensity of a range of products. By using smart sensor data gathered from across ADNOC’s operational chain – from the oil well right to the customer – the pilot will show how much CO2 was used to make products such as Murban crude, ammonia and aviation fuels. Sonangol extends contract for Libongos drillship for 12 wells
|
Seadrill announced a new extension has been secured by Sonadrill Holding, Seadrill’s 50:50 joint venture with an affiliate of Sonangol. Sonadrill has secured a 12-well extension in Angola for the Libongos drillship at $402,500/day. Total contract value for the firm portion of the contract is approximately $327 million, inclusive of additional services.
