E.P. Mazets (USSR) spoke about the observations of cosmic gamma-ray bursts in the Soviet space experiment "Cone". Gamma bursts are short-term (from 0.1 to 10-100 s) outbursts of hard radiation with energies of 100-1000 keV. Part of the mystery was revealed in this experiment. It was possible to show that the sources of gamma-ray bursts are neutron stars. It is pleasant to note that in this area, thanks to the work of E. P. Mazets and his colleagues from the Physical Engineering Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences, our country has taken the leading positions in the world.


Apparently, the most economical in gamma astronomy is the method of observing gamma sources from the surface of the Earth. It is based on the fact that gamma-quantum of ultra-high energy, flying into the atmosphere of the Earth, creates a downpour, which, in turn, causes Cherenkov radiation. It is also observed from the surface of the Earth. Such observations are carried out in the Crimean Observatory under the direction of A. A. Stepanyan, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. He spoke about the discovery of periodic variability in one of the sources of hard gamma radiation.
