The forklift drives off and the shore crane lifts to the pier. Also, without a U-turn, the forklift drives up for the next portion of cargo.

In the second embodiment, the forklift cycle is significantly reduced.

The performance of a forklift truck in the processing of box cargo weighing 1000-1500 kg and mileage up to 9 m, according to data obtained by monitoring the operation of a forklift in the hold of the ship "Akademik Karpinsky", is 40-45 t / h. The productivity of a coastal crane during the processing of this cargo is usually about 20 tons / hour and is limited by hold work.

Thus, the use of one forklift in the hold of the vessel allows you to double the rate of production for each hatch. The use of two or more forklift trucks is impractical due to cramped working conditions.
