High-temperature expandable system installed in SAGD well

Enventure Global Technology announced this week the installation of its SET high-temperature cased-hole expandable system in a steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) well in Alberta, Canada.

The 9 5/8 in.-by-11 3/4 in. high-temperature system was used to repair a casing integrity issue in the well. The 30-ft liner was installed and expanded at a depth of 646 ft (197 m) and allowed the operator to continue using the well.

“High-temperature conditions, like those in SAGD wells, place extreme stress on casing and pipe because of the cyclical nature of the steam injection process,” said Greg Noel, Enventure product commercialization manager. “Our system repaired the casing so the operator could avert the high cost of re-drilling the well.”

The new expandable system comes in all of the currently available SET sizes. It is rated to withstand temperatures up to 518°F (270°C) at pressures of 1,000 psi. As is the advantage with all expandable technology, the in-situ expansion of the steel casing allows for maximized internal diameter and throughput.
